Bags

All sizes are made of thick cowhide, typical of the 18th century longhunter - nothing fancy. Decoration can be added, if required, but this style was generally plain. The bags are very strong, you will never wear it out, all stitched in sinew with an adjustable leather shoulder strap and brass buckle.

This bag is made of dark green thick oiled cowhide. The style is that worn by Roger's Rangers who were a regiment of mountain men and explorers who fought on the side of the British in the Colonial wars against the French.

This style of bag has a great heritage. Its main function in the 17th and 18th centuries was to carry musket balls. It hangs low for easy access on a strap of thick cowhide with a large solid brass buckle. Approximate size 11" x 9" with a 5" flap fastened with a brass stud set in horse-harness leather.

Made for use with leather trousers as an alternative to pockets, this pouch hangs on a belt and is ideal for carrying valuable items. These can be made in any size or specially tailored to your requirements. The pouch is laced up with leather thonging. The flap is left untrimmed and it is fastened with a bone toggle.

During the Klondike Goldrush days every trapper had his poke. Gold nuggets were kept in the poke and used as currency. Gold pokes are still in use today and I personally use one all the time as opposed to a wallet. Pokes can be made in any size of any leather. They can be stitched with thonging or artificial sinew an are gathered up with latigo leather lace.

This bag would have been worn on the opposite shoulder to the Roger's Rangers as it would have been used as a haversack to hold such items as fire-making tools and all the necessary items for wilderness living. This traditional-style satchel is approximately 14" x 12" x 3" deep and is made of thick dark brown hide, highly polished with beeswax. It ahs the same shoulder strap and heavy-duty brass buckle as the smaller bag above.
