The sole is what I call a "peel off sole" - that is to say, when the sole has worn out it can just be pulled off and the old sole can be used as a pattern for a new one. I have many pairs of moccasins and boots that I have done this with and they have lasted many years I use a normal type of glue such as 'UHU' which is easily available worldwide. Having a peel off sole protects the main sole of the boot.
These boots are either plain or decorative and I have found them to be very warm in winter, it is also to be noted that they are at there best when worn without socks even on the coldest days, I have also found this to be the same with the moccasins.
The boots can be made to any height, up to the knee.

This is a fine pair of boots, made from thick cow hide with a moccasin style foot and a lace up front. It is trimmed with muskrat fur at the knee. The decoration on the outside of each boot is of a wolf howling within a circle and feathers hanging off the sides which covers most of the side of the boot. The artwork has largely been done with leather dye. Once the artwork has been completed the whole boot is polished - further protecting both the artwork and boots.

These hard-soled boots are of the kind a Kiowa Apache would wear. The boots are laced up the front and have an arrowhead design on the side made of dark brown hide stitched onto a soft goatskin upper. This gives them a snug comfortable fit when pulled tight to the leg. The arrowhead design is repeated on the vamp. At the sides, for added decoration, are white cowhide thongs and tassels of squirrel fur.
These were made at the request of a special friend whose given native American name is 'Calls the Moon'. They are made of thick supple dark blue oiled cowhide. These are an Apache design with a moccasin-style foot. They are knee-length with 4" fringes around the top and lace-up fronts. They are sewn in artificial sinew. They are designed for use in mainly woodland terrain.
These are particularly special boots as they are made of very thick hide with a Muskrat fur top. They are unlined with a moccasin style bottom with a boot extension upper. This method of construction produces an extremely durable boot, whilst staying comfortable once moulded to the individual shape of your foot. The design is hand painted and depicts a 'dream catcher' - a native American artefact that was hung above a bed to catch bad dreams, and to let the good dreams flow through like a waterfall. This Dreamcatcher has a wolf as its central motif.
These Apache style boots are made from rough leather with a thick sole, whilst the upper is made from a soft suede with an arrowhead decoration on the outside of each boot. The fur trim is rabbit, and the diamond pattern on the foot part of the boot is appliquéd. The tassles are made from suede and are purely decorative, the boot laces up along its length so that it fits particularly tightly to the leg.
